Hello! My name is Jalene Hernández and I'm the designer and proprietor of the Seattle-based design studio, La Sirena. I come from a long line of self-employed folks, so I have always had the idea in my head that owning my own business was in my future. In Spring of 2008 I felt like the time was right so I left my full-time job with an ad agency and headed down the freelance path. I love freelancing because it gives me a stronger sense of ownership and pride in my work. I also enjoy getting to know my clients. And the fact that no two clients are alike keeps things fresh.
Over the past 10 years I have been working as a designer and production artist in everything from independent zines to international ad agencies. This has given me a well-rounded background that allows me to work on a wide variety of projects.
My personal design esthetic is influenced by many things: cartoons and animation, printmaking, old album artwork, traveling & experiencing other cultures, ephemera, music, street art, and of course nature (I AM from the Northwest afterall!). Plus, I've been lucky to have worked with some amazing people over the years and hopefully some of their amazing-ness has rubbed off on me.
